The Technical Committee-Aviation Safety, also be known as Banjul Accord Group Regional Aviation Safety Team (BAGRAST) is responsible for recommending accident prevention interventions to the Board. The focus and priority of BAGRAST is to introduce, support and develop actions which have the potential to effectively and economically reduce the regional accident rate.
The committee consists of one flight operation, one airworthiness and representative from other functional areas as members of the Team. The Technical Support and Training Director of BAGASOO coordinates the activities of the Committee.
Without prejudice to the generality of the above, the Committee is responsible for the following:
- Review safety interventions which have already been developed by ICAO and the existing safety groups such as CAST and JSSI and advice the Board which of these are appropriate for implementation in the BAG region.
- Review regional accidents / significant incident trends and other matters of local concern and identify specific areas of concern to flight safety within the region (such as aging aircraft, air rage incidents etc.) which require emphasis, preparation of data and interventions to address these concerns.
- Work closely with service providers, airlines, manufacturers, other relevant industries, labour associations and other relevant organizations to ensure that interventions are implemented through coordinated efforts.
- Review outputs from ICAO safety oversight audits and the issues identified by Member States.
